It is the traditional belief that reincarnation is a soul passed from one biological being to another through a linear time series. This is a very rigid way of looking at the act of reincarnation though.
It is my belief that reincarnation does not have to be linear. The can be a transfer of energy and traditions passed down through legacy and learned behaviors.
A person takes and gives energy throughout their life. It can be through any means: interaction with one’s peers, their environment, or through thought and introspection.
Ancestors can find the best parts of someone and carry those on; likewise with learning from a person’s mistakes and leaving those behind.
This also gives credence to many religious schools of thought. The concept of Heaven and Hell is not necessarily a physical place. Instead it could be a metaphor for the way that one is remembered after they pass.
